Day 1 : Arrive Durban Airport -- Transfer to ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

Arrive Durban International Airport where we will meet you and transfer you to ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, situated in the small diving town of Umkomaas about 80km south of the Durban International Airport. When you arrive at the dive lodge, you will be checked into your room, meet the team and spend the day relaxing on the beach or around the pool. In the late afternoon we will give you a briefing about the diving at the shark diving at the Aliwal Shoal as well as information about your diving in Mozambique. Day 2 : 2 x Shark Dives Aliwal Shoal -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

We generally meet at 7am for breakfast before moving down to the dive centre to kit-up and prepare for the diving.

The first dive today will give you a chance to check your gear and get your weighting comfortable and will take place somewhere shallow on the reef. The second dive will be the start of the shark action. Our shark dives takes place on the reefs of the Aliwal Shoal in South Africa. The reefs are rated as some of the best in the world for shark diving and we aim to show you as many species of shark as possible including Tiger Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks, Oceanic Blacktip Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Guitar Sharks & Whitetip Reef Sharks.

After the diving we return to the dive lodge where there are hot showers and a secure wet-room to store your gear, ready for the next days shark diving. In the afternoons if the conditions allow we offer extra diving or you can enjoy the afternoon relaxing at the lodge, walk on the beach or visiting local attractions. Day 3 : 2 x Shark Dives Aliwal Shoal -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

Meet at 7am for breakfast before moving down to the dive centre to kit-up and prepare for the diving. The diving starts with a launch from the Umkomaas river or beach depending on the tide. Enjoy two more Shark Diving looking for the different shark species. In the afternoons if the conditions allow we can do extra dive.

Day 4 : 2 x Shark Dives Aliwal Shoal -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

After breakfast we launch and go out to the reefs of the Aliwal Shoal. Each day we dive different dive sites that are only select once we get out to sea and get a chance to check the conditions so we know where the best days shark diving will be. In the afternoons if the conditions allow we can do extra shark dives.

Day 5 : 2 x Shark Dives Aliwal Shoal -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

Today we go out in search of more species of shark found on the reefs of the Aliwal Shoal. During the Ragged Tooth Shark season, we find these awesome creatures in many of the caves and overhangs. The Raggies are great to dive with and make for some awesome upclose photos. In the afternoons if the conditions allow we can do extra shark dives.

Day 6 : 1 baited Tiger Shark Dive Aliwal Shoal -- Transfer to St. Lucia -- Overnight St. Lucia, South Africa

Today is our final day of diving the Aliwal Shoal and our main aim is to dive with Tiger Sharks. The diving takes place on the southern end of the Aliwal Shoal. We create an odour corridor to attract the Tiger Sharks and once the sharks arrive we enter the water to observe the sharks in their natural enviroment - a truly amazing experience!

After the diving its time to head north. On the way we stop in the town of St. Lucia, famous for its Hippos & Crocs. In the evening enjoy dinner at the lodge or at one of the local restaurants. Overnight Lodge Afrique, St. Lucia, South Africa.

           

Day 7 : Full Day Open Vehicle Game Safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi -- Overnight St. Lucia, South Africa

An early morning rise for a game safari in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, home to Africa's wildlife including the Big-5, Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino & Buffalo as well as many other animals including Giraffe, Zebra, Wildbeeste, Hippo and many species of buck and birds. The safari is fully guided in an open safari vehicle giving you the best chance to get up-close and personal with these fantastic animals in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Reserve.

After the game drive we head back to St. Lucia to reflect on the day, enjoy dinner at the lodge or one of the local restaurants and look forward to the shark diving in Mozambique. Overnight Lodge Afrique, St. Lucia, South Africa.

                    

Day 8 : Transfer to Ponta Do Oura in Mozambique -- 1 x Shark Dive -- Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

An early rise and we transfer north to the border and enter Mozambique. At the border we change vehicles into 4 x 4 as there are no tar roads from the border to Ponta Do Oura, the adventure begins.

When we arrive in Ponta Do Oura, the boat will be waiting for us to kit-up before heading out on our first shark dive on the fantastic reefs of Ponta Do Oura. The dive will give us a taste of the shark diving, boat launching and adventure that the next few days will bring.

Our accommodation is in a lodge with an awesome deck with views overlooking the ocean with miles of golden sandy beaches. In the evening we enjoy a meal at one of the fantastic restaurants in Ponta Do Oura. Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique.

           

Day 9 : 2 x shark dives at Ponta Do Oura -- Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

Today we enjoy 2-dives on the pinnacle reef of Ponta Do Oura in Mozambique, rated as one of the best dive sites for Hammerhead Sharks & Bull Sharks. You will also see much more during your dive as these reefs are home to a huge diversity of marine life. In the afternoon if the conditions allow, we will offer extra dives. After the diving, relax at the lodge or on the beach before enjoying a meal at one of the restaurants in Ponta Do Oura. Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique.


Day 10 : 2 x shark dives at Ponta Do Oura -- Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

After breakfast we go out for another two dives with the sharks found on the reefs of the Ponta Do Oura. On the way to the dive sites we keep an eye out for Whale Sharks which can be seen most of the year. In the afternoon if the conditions allow, we will offer extra dives. In the evening enjoy a meal at a restaurant. Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique.


Day 11 : 2 x shark dives at Ponta Do Oura -- Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

After breakfast we meet at the dive centre for another day of shark diving. Whilst Hammerheads & Bull Sharks are the main attraction, we also see Grey Reef Sharks, Leopard Sharks, Silvertip Sharks and Oceanic Blacktip Sharks. The reefs are also home to a huge variety of Rays, eels, Turtles and much more. After the diving relax at the lodge or visit some of the local sites. In the evening enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants in Ponta Do Oura. Overnight Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique.

           

Day 12 : 1 x shark dive at Ponta Do Oura -- Transfer into South Africa -- Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa

In the morning we enjoy our final dive at Ponta do Oura before heading for the border where we bid farewell to Mozambique and head south back to ScubaAddicts Lodge where you can spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach or at the pool, reflecting on the shark diving in South Africa & Mozambique. In the evening enjoy dinner at the lodge or at one of the local restaurants. Overnight ScubaAddicts Dive Lodge, South Africa.

Day 13 : Airport Transfers to Durban International Airport or extend your stay.

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, spend the day relaxing or maybe enjoy a local excursion in Durban before being transferred to Durban International Airport where we will bid you farewell [until the next time.]

Tiger Sharks
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Tiger Sharks grow up to about 6-metres, the average size is about 3-metres. Our Tiger Shark diving takes place on the reefs to the south of the Aliwal Shoal and will rate as one of the top-5 dives you will ever do - awesome!

Oceanic Blacktip Sharks
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

The Oceanic Blacktip Sharks are generally found to the south of the Aliwal Shoal. The dive starts with us dropping in on one of the dive sites on the Aliwal Shoal. We use baitless methods to attract the Oceanic Blacktip Sharks.

Ragged Tooth Sharks
Aliwal Shoal, South Africa

Our Ragged Tooth Shark dives take place on the Aliwal Shoal and the reefs to the south of the Aliwal Shoal. The main dive sites are Cathedral, Chunnel & Raggies Cave however the sharks can be found all over the Aliwal Shoal.

Bull Sharks known locally as Zambezi
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Our Bull Shark dives takes place mainly on the reefs to the north & south of the Aliwal Shoal. Bull sharks are also seen during our Tiger Shark dive and when we dive the wrecks at the Aliwal Shoal.

Dusky Sharks
Aliwal Shoal, South Africa

The Dusky Sharks are found to the south of the Aliwal Shoal during May to November. The sharks are great to dive with and they behave very similar to the Blacktip Sharks. Dusky Sharks are also seen during the Tiger Shark Dive.

Hammerhead Sharks
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Our Hammerhead Shark dives take place off-shore from the Aliwal Shoal. The dives are mid-water drifts and while we do have sightings of Hammerheads during most the year, our best time is during our summer months.

Giant Guitar Sharks
Aliwal Shoal, South Africa

Guitar Sharks are found on the sandy patches on the north and south of the Aliwal Shoal and mainly during our summer months. The are generally very calm and you can get up close allowing for some great viewing and photos.

White-tip Reef Sharks
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

White-tip Reef Sharks are seen on many of the reefs, we generally find them lying under caves and in the potholes relaxing during the day so they can hunt the reefs at night.

Grey Reef Sharks
Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

Grey Reef Sharks can be seen on many of the reefs in Tofo including Manta Reef. The sharks are inquistive and can often be seen cruising the reefs following the schools of game fish.

Leopard Sharks
Ponta Do Oura, Mozambique

We generally see Leopard Sharks on the off-shore reefs of Office and Amazon, they are very shy but if approached slowly they won't swim away and they offer great photos opportunities.

Whales, Dolphin, Rays, Turtles, Eels, Game Fish & more

Humpback Whales
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Between April and November the annual Humpback Whale migration passes the Aliwal Shoal. The whales can often be seen from the boat between dives and during dives we often hear the whale song which is amazing.

Bottlenose Dolphin
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

We have a resident pod of Bottlenose Dolphin at the Aliwal Shoal and in Ponta do Oura. The dolphin often approach the boat and we often see them during a dive on the sandy patches and pinnacle ridge of the Aliwal Shoal.

Manta Rays
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

We often see Manta Rays whilst diving the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura. The Manta Rays vary in size from around 2-metres but can be as large as 6-metres.

Eagle Rays
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Eagle Rays are often seen on the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura. During the dives we see them on the outside edge as well as on the reefs to the south of the Aliwal Shoal.

Round Ribbon-tail Rays
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Round Ribbon-tail Rays can be seen on the sandy patches of the Aliwal Shoal as well as in the current on the outside edge of the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura. They can be a large as 3-metres in diametre and are sometimes in large groups.

Honeycomb Rays
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Honeycomb Rays are found all over reefs of the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura, sometimes on the sandy patches or we see them swiming in mid-water. These Rays are huge and make for some fantastic photo opportunities.

Devil Rays
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Devil Rays are often seen towards the end of the dives if we drift into deeper water on the outside of the Aliwal Shoal and the reefs of Ponta do Oura.

They can be in small groups of two to three but can also be in the hunderds.

Ragged Scorpion Fish
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

The reefs and wrecks of the Aliwal Shoal in South Africa and the reefs of Ponta do Oura in Mozambique are home to many Ragged Scorpion fish. While you don't want to touch them, they offer some fantastic photo opportunities.

Turtles
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Turtles can be found all over the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura, there are many species including Green Turtles, Hawksbill Turtles and Loggerhead turtles.

Eels
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

We have a huge variety of moral eels found on the reefs of the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura including huge Honeycomb Eels, Geometric eels and Black-cheek moray eels.

Potato Bass
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

Potato Bass are found all over the Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura and are generally very friendly and will often approach divers. We also sometimes see them during our baited Tiger Shark dives on the south of the Aliwal Shoal.

Game & Reef Fish
Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura

The Aliwal Shoal & Ponta do Oura have a huge diversity of game and reef fish that can be seen during most dives. We are often lucky enough to have schools of barracuda, king fish and sometimes even sailfish & marlin.

Dive Gear

Wetsuits : Most divers seem to favour 5-mm wetsuits year-round, if you feel the cold then gloves and a hoodie are a good idea. We do have shortie wetsuits that you can add to your wetsuit if you are cold.

Cylinders : We use 12-liter steel cylinders which are available as A-clamp [international] or DIN so will suit all divers.

Gear Hire : Dive gear is available for rent so you don't need to bring your own gear. Once we have your booking, you can just let us know what dive gear you will need.

All the accommodation is in upmarket lodges which have ensuite facilities and are serviced daily. We don't offer this package over the Christmas & New Year period as this is during local school holidays and there are to many divers in the water so we can't offer high quality diving. We are aware that this doesn't make good business sense as we could easily fill the package but we would rather you come dive here when you can experience good quality diving.
